Therapeutic Human Nutrition

SUS-TAINN™

The Company is currently developing products in this category that will be branded SUS-TAINN™ (Superior Utility Supplementation Therapeutic Agent for Indicated Nutritional Needs) (currently in development).

SUS-TAINN is being developed in collaboration with the Richardson Center for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals at the University of Manitoba, which has designed state of the art assays affording demonstration of the clinical attributes of next generation ready to use therapeutic foods addressing serious and acute malnutrition (SAM) & clinical impact of starvation on a broad spectrum of immune function, being expressed in the context of endemic co-morbidities and co-intersecting pandemics, which are subject to global public health commodity program procurement formulas. RUTFs like SUS-TAINN are the cornerstone to international famine response and currently presents more than 20% of public health commodity procurement spending. SUS-TAINN by agencies ranging from the US Department of State to the World Food Program, and are distributed by an increasingly large number of non-governmental organizations, which afford viable competitive measures for the presenting efficacy of more then two dozen products currently on the market, being manufactured by an equal number of manufacturers.

RES-TORE

RES-TORE, the initial enteral formulation from AREV, based on organic plant nutrition for patient populations who have demonstrated overt clinical need for rational enhanced caloric intake and micronutrient supplementation. RES-TORE is distinguished from other enteral formulas in wide clinical utility by all aspects of healthcare systems treating patient populations vulnerable to catabolic cachexia. RES-TORE provides a proprietary blend of high quality proteins, antioxidants, minerals and proven anabolic agents, combined with pre and probiotics.

Extraction and Ingredients

The Company’s proprietary process technology and system is an extraction technology that flash-freezes active ingredients, oils and oleoresins for use as ingredients in food, nutraceuticals and other consumer products.

The equipment and system allows for oils to be extracted from plants and feedstocks without the use of destructive high-temperature, pressure or aggressive solvents. The system enables the extraction of fractions that are mostly lost when using common methods. In addition, yields from FFE have been impressive.

The FFE process uses food grade solvents that chill the biomass by adiabatic cooling while extracting at low pressures. The solution is passed into a collection chamber, which is held under vacuum. In this chamber the extraction agent evaporates and is recycled online after filtration and cleaning.

Our extraction systems are able to do vacuum extraction conditions with alcohol, water, and supercritical and subcritical/liquid carbon dioxide, as well as alcohol extractions up to 2,250 psi pressure environments, enabling polar and nonpolar extractions.  Some  extractions  can  be  performed  at  below  zero-degree temperatures.

The AREV technology and system is compact, scalable and economical compared to other methods. A fully functional plant with the capacity of processing 1,400 tons/annum of  biomass can fit on 150 square meters of total floor space, compared with 1,000 square meters needed for similar capacity solvent or carbon dioxide plant.

Ingredient Processing

Edible Oils

Edible oils are among the widely used ingredients and considered essential in preparing food items. They are consumed by people and also have an impact on their health. Increasing incidences of chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, people are moving towards adopting more healthy options including omega-3 fatty acids that minimize the risk of chronic diseases. Hence, manufacturers are also focusing on the research and development of edible oils that can cut the risk of various diseases and also help to fight the problem of obesity.  A  majority  of  the  people  are  moving  towards  consuming monounsaturated and polyunsaturated edible oils such as peanut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, and walnut oil. Most of the countries have set various standards to ensure the authenticity of food and labeling.

Pharma

Many  modern  medicines  have  their origins in natural products for example, the skin of the  roots  from Dahlias  is  known to  be high  in  antibiotics.  Aspirin, from bark and leaves of the willow tree, has been used for over 2,400 years. Morphine is naturally biosynthesized in the opium poppy. AREV is starting with the characterization of Sea Cucumber and Moringa to identify the target compounds suitable for drug candidates.

Moringa

The miraculous Moringa Tree: a rapid growth rate in the right climate makes it possible to harvest leaves from the tree within six months from seedling to fully mature tree with 3 to 4 harvests within every calendar year.

These bright green tiny leaves are chalked full of nutrients and minerals mined by the roots of the tree from the sub-soil strata. When dried and powdered, Moringa is one of the best bioavailable forms of nutrition for human and animal consumption.

Moringa powder is in high demand worldwide in the health and wellness manufacturing and distribution industries. The highest quality and most nutritionally potent Moringa is grown in equatorial regions and climates such as Uganda.

Sea Cucumber

Sea cucumber has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundred of years to treat:  Fatigue, Impotence,Constipation, Frequent urination, and joint pain.

It is also a rich source of chondroitin sulfate, commonly used for arthritis. There are no reports of adverse effects from use of sea cucumber.

We have a proprietary method to extract the oils from sea cucumber which we source directly from the company that harvests the animal from the North Atlantic Ocean. These oils are used in our gel cap formulations with CBD and Hops. The powder is used as an ingredient in two piece capsule supplements. The compounds will be used in our drug discovery platform.

Hops

Hops are the flower of the hop plant (Humulus lupulus) most widely known to make beer. In addition to imparting flavor to ales and pilsners, hops are also believed to offer health benefits. Many of these are attributed to compounds found in the plant's flowering cones, including terpenes, flavonoids xanthohumol and 8-prenylnaringenin and the essential oils humulene and lupuline.

These compounds have anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, analgesic (pain-relieving), and even anti-cancer properties. Some of these claims are better supported by research than others. Hops has long been regarded as a herbal remedy for stress, insomnia, and digestive upset. The herb is best known as a nervous system relaxant but also has pain relieving, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, and diuretic properties. Health Canada has a published Monograph With claims for Sleep dis-orders, anti-anxiety and restlessness. CBD has similar claims.

Ginseng

AREV has a Natural Product Number License issued by Health Canada for its proprietary Ginse product. Health Canada License NPN 80015898
Ginseng has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.

Ginseng contains significant compounds: ginsenosides, gintonin, polysaccharides and saponins. These compounds complement one another to provide health benefits.Proven to promote T-Cell Lymphocyte proliferation. This leads to healthy support of the immune system.

Cannabis Sativa

CBD “Cannabidiol Isolate is a non psychoactive molecule extracted from Cannabis and Hemp. Many of the AREV formulas include CBD. We use Isolate where it is best suited including enriching full spectrum hemp oil. CBD supports: cognitive health and brain function, reduced symptoms of stress and mild anxiety and reduced Inflammation

Functional Fungi

Within the mushroom, there are several molecules, including triterpenoids, polysaccharides and peptidoglycans, that may be responsible for its health effects. Benefits: boosts the immune system, anti cancer properties, fights fatigue and depression, heart health, blood sugar, and it is an antioxidant.

Anti-Virals and Phytomedicinalization

Phytomedicinalization

We have a particular interest in medicinally useful products that have increasing  acceptance from products for non-opioid pain relief and for assisting some patients suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition “SAM”, Viral Infection, Inflammation and Sleep Disorders and Anxiety.

Botanicals and select sea animals are an original source for pharmaceuticals, although simple molecules of known chemical structure are commonly produced from bulk chemicals as starting materials for industrial-scale chemical synthesis.

Because of this, the multi-billion-dollar figures for world markets for pharmaceuticals are not directly applicable to (e.g.) medications extracted from plants, fungi and algae. There remain many complex molecules for which extraction from natural sources is the most viable source of production.

Anti-Virals

The development of viral resistance towards antiviral agents enhances the need for new effective compounds against viral infections. Medicinal plants have a variety of chemical constituents, which have the ability to inhibit the replication cycle of various types of DNA or RNA viruses. Compounds from natural sources are of interest as possible sources to control viral infection. In this context various research groups in Asia, Far East, Europe and America have given particular attention to develop antiviral agents from their native traditional plant medicines.
